129 – Fooled on the Hill

Evening falls on Weathertop, and our heroes make camp beneath the stars with the Black Riders not far away. Strider tells stories to chase away their fears, covering most of The Silmarillion in a lot less time than we did. But in the darkest night, the Black Riders sneak up on the camp, and Frodo is suddenly overcome by a desire to disappear. We revisit the story of Beren and Lúthien, Alan alliterates again, and we solve several surprisingly similar listener questions about Ringwraiths.

  • Hello I have only recently discovered your podcast. I’m on episode 5 and catching up very slowly but enjoying every minute. I absolutely love what you guys have done and would just like to thank you. If you guys ever visit Hampshire old England please contact me and I will take you to the hobbit pub which 8s very local to me. They have a the fellowship cocktail challenge which is great and if you drink all 9 you can request the special gollum or nazgul cocktail. Juicy sweet.

    • You’re welcome, Josh, and thank you for your kind words of appreciation! We’ll be in Birmingham later this year, but sadly nowhere near Hampshire. However, I have some family in Sussex, so the next time I find myself in the south of England I’ll try to make my way out there. 🙂

  • I was listening to this episode on my way to work the other day. When you described the Witch King, and his “hair, long and gleaming” an image of the Witch King in a bubble bath, still in his long gray robes and washing his long hair, popped into my head.

So that image is in my head now and I needed to share it.

    • There aren’t a lot of things that terrify me down to my bones, Casey, but the image of a bathing Ringwraith might now be on that list. Also, I’m imagining him saying, “Sauron, take me away!” #dadjokes

      • That would be great. We also have a life size aragorn at the hobbit pub which is great for photos and sir Ian McKellen has been know to pop in for drinks as recently as may this year.
        Namárië
